Biography

Trained at New York City's School of Visual Arts, Vincent Amicosante focused on painting and drawing. His disposition for the narrative drew him to the field of editorial illustration and throughout the seventies he worked as a freelance illustrator for various book and magazine publishers. Interested in returning to a career in fine art he moved to Cape Cod, Massachusetts and began to establish a reputation as a magic realist painter. He has since lived in California and traveled to Italy, the influence of these places are evident in his work. In his paintings familiar, even banal, themes are rearranged, becoming enigmatic. His painted world is one of staged metaphors--- sofas and chairs in unexpected locations, figures and fruit combined for their sexuality: and skies and landscapes sliding over each other invite the viewer to visually walk through the painting so as to not deprive oneself of the inherent poetry and wit.

Vincent Amicosante is represented by the Harmon Gallery in Wellfleet, MA. His work is also included in many private collections across the United States.
